September 2015 Meeting Agenda

ATF!

It is almost time for our September meeting.

The details:
What: Monthly meeting, style demonstration, tech talk, updates and sampling of all fermented libations available.
Where: VFW Post 2514
When: Sunday September 20, 2015 from 1:30 pm until about 4 or 5.  Pre-meeting happy hour will begin at about 1:00 pm while we get set up.

Here are the items on the agenda:
  1. Style discussion.
  2. 2015 Elections.
  3. Tech Talk.
  4. Brewday in front of B99 at Mumfest.
  5. Oktoberfest.
  6. Brewer of the month.
If there is anything that anyone would like to put onto the agenda, please email me or bring it up at the meeting's new business call.

Notes: We strongly encourage you to bring homebrew, even if you don't think it's the best beer that you have ever made (if it is then I demand you bring it!).  If you are going to sample (and we usually do), bring a designated driver or make arrangements to get home.

Here are the meeting minutes from the August gathering held at 1:30pm on August 16, 2015 at VFW Post 2514 in New Bern.

We would like to thank everyone in the VFW Post 2514 for allowing us to come in to their establishment and have a homebrew!

Discussion about changes in the BJCP guidelines regarding Pale Ales by Bryan Conway.

Tech Talk by Mike Dawson on Propane vs. Electricity Brewing.

Several bikers from a Wilmington bike club joined us for tastings, as well as a few VFW members.

Pete is interested in selling the mash tun from Brewery 99.

Treasurer’s Report for CCBO and Club Finances Reports went around.

CCBO Report- Need to have a debriefing about CCBO, plus/delta.
            Is the club going to be involved in CBOY competition this year?

Homebrew festival for this fall is on hold, due to ALE laws regarding homebrewing.  Will look into spring and what needs to happen to keep ALE happy.

Is the club interested in doing a brew sharing day out at Crossfit Burn sometime in September?

Friday Night Flights September 18, 2015 at Clawson’s in Morehead City.
            Bryan Conway, Tim Dryden, Jason Stone, Dawn Jones, Terry Laurie, Dennis (?)

Motion Made by Rob Jones and seconded by Tim Dryden to have at Brewery 99 for MumFest.  Motion carried with one nay and one abstain.

There was talk about the Octoberfest date.  Brought to our attention that we need to check on dates with Dennis Overby to make sure we don’t double book with MumFest.

Election time is almost here.  Pete Frey volunteered to head up the nomination committee.  Election information will be posted on the website.  Terry Laurie is not accepting nominations for VP next year.

Scoring sheets were tallied to see who is brewer of the month.  Verdict: Rob Jones- Sweet Potato Brown

Treasurer, Dawn Jones asked permission to reimburse $40 to Tim Dryden for shipping costs of ribbons sans receipt (it was accidentally thrown out).  Officers all approved reimbursement.  $40 was paid.

Further discussion was made regarding CCBO and holding a possible homebrew festival at the VFW before the meeting adjourned at or around 5:30.

There were no committee  chairpersons available so there were no updates available.

New/Ongoing Business
Beer Army Outpost closing, this location will no longer be a viable meeting location.

Brew Durham scheduled for September 26.

Joey discussed Friday Night Flights and our next scheduled date to serve our homebrew will be on September 18.

Monthly Club Competition
Homebrew contest winner was Terry Laurie with his Scotch Ale, also awarding him homebrewer of the month.

Crystal Coast Brew Off Committee  - Tim discussed where the club stands with regard to the CCBO.   Beer Scores is now live.

Homebrew Festival Committee – Lots of discussion.  
Date is set for November 7 which also happens to be National Learn to Homebrew Day.
New Bern Farmer’s Market is still the venue.
Dates and clubs for inviting will be worked out soon.
Habitat For Humanity is happy to be bringing this to New Bern.

New/Ongoing Business

-All current events that the Club is facing were brought to the floor and discussed.

-Club By-Laws are currently with a CPA in order to move forward with the decision to apply for 501c(7) status.

-Brew Bern being held on June 27, the following members are planning on representing the club:
